Snow Bike Carson Street South Side Pittsburgh

Photo submitted by Gwendolyn:

After the first big snowfall in February, I took my camera out to capture the scenery.  To my amazement, someone was biking fast down E. Carson in the heavy snow, and happily I was able to capture him!

South Side Personalities

South Side Pittsburgh Personality

Photo submitted by Jake, our newest Photog-at-Large.

I took this photo in the South Side. It’s  really a great place to meet some of the most unique and creative people in Pittsburgh. This guy recognized my camera as a Minolta. I spoke to him about film photography for at least 20 minutes. Interactions like this remind me why I’m proud to call Pittsburgh home.

The Milk Shake Factory

Milk Shake Factory South Side PittsburghWhat do you do?

Part of a family of family-owned businesses which includes Edward Marc Chocalatier and Sherm Edward Candies, the Milk Shake Factory, located at 1705 E. Carson St. in the South Side, is committed to pure, old-fashioned fun … for kids of every age or interest. For us, fun comes in the form of a quality, handmade milkshake. After nearly a century in business, we respect and understand the value of place through our dedication to community values and environmentally-friendly business operations in the Pittsburgh area.

How did you start?

In 1914, a young Greek couple set off from their native land to pursue the dream of a new life in America. After arriving in New York City, Charlie and Orania made their way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There they settled and made a life together relying on a skill that they carried with them from the family kitchen back in Greece – handcrafted chocolates.

Milk Shake Factory South Side PittsburghIn the nine decades since our great grandparents first founded the business, our family has handed down—from father to son and mother to daughter—the traditions and techniques of fine chocolate making, each successive generation prospering upon the exact recipe that Charlie and Orania perfected in 1914.

Being a 4th generation family business, quality and pride in all that our name stands for are extremely important to us.  At the Milk Shake Factory we hand-make all of our shakes right there in front of you and all the chocolates available are handmade in our facility in Trafford.  All of our items are very affordable and very high quality—for under $10 you can get a treat for yourself and a nice gift for someone you care about.

We’ve recently opened an Edward Marc location in the Pentagon, and don’t be surprised if you see Milk Shake Factory locations opening in DC and New York City.  Look us up next time you visit!
