I took these photographs in the yard of my childhood home when I was on summer break from college. I went to school in Meadville, PA just over an hour from home-but school felt like another world, not as magical.  I was sunbathing and admiring our overgrown garden and my neighbor’s drying cottons. I realized how easily I was transported to my summers as a child in Dormont, a suburb of Pittsburgh. It was all of a sudden so beautiful. I remembered when I would run barefoot along the alleys of crumbling asphalt to my wretched chain link fence. To my “secret garden.” I contemplated these memories then and was happy to be living in that place, on that day, in Pittsburgh.
