What do you do?

CommuniTeach is a platform that connects real people like you with others in your area so you can meet in person and learn for free from each other. We make it easy to arrange both 1-on-1 “skill swaps” and group “LearnIts,” where a bunch of people learn a skill at once. Everyone has something they can teach, from digital photography to web design to piñata making, that others would love to learn. And when people start sharing their skills with one another, their world and the world becomes a better, more interesting, and connected place.

Why is that important to you?

CommuniTeach is a game-changer. We honor the desire for individuals to share in their passion for learning and teaching, and provide a fun and straight-forward platform for them to connect. We believe in free learning and in its power to positively transform the way that people interact. We challenge the idea that money must be exchanged for knowledge and that learning must be a formal experience. We promote open education, community and neighborhood building, and the idea that everyone has something valuable to share. We honor the learning experience and realize that it can be a dynamic social activity. By connecting people this way, individuals become more integrated into their community, and in turn their world and the world becomes smarter, and more connected!

Why Pittsburgh?

We were inspired by the support we received from the Sprout Fund Seed Award. That award lead us to connect with individuals and organizations around Pittsburgh who share our mission to bring strangers together to interact in meaningful ways. The warm, friendly community-focused sentiment we experienced here made us fall in love with Pittsburgh. We do events in all neighborhoods of Pittsburgh.
